The production region of DOC Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, located in the Abruzzo wine region, covers the same area as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, and produces over 190,000 hectoliters of wine per year.
This wine region has the same type of climate as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo´. For this reason, this DOC has a warm, dry, Mediterranean climate.
The vineyards are concentrated in a mountainous strip of 125 kilometers long, between the Tronto and Trigno rivers, and in some basins located in the center of the Abruzzo region. The soils of the region are variable, with sandy-clay soils predominating in the upper part of the region, while they are often interspersed with layers of silt, gravel or clay.
Most Planted White Grape Varieties: Trebbiano Toscano, Trebbiano Abbruzzese
In the heart of the Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC wine region, a trio of wines beckons connoisseurs to savor the essence of this captivating terroir: Bianco, Superiore, and Riserva.
Bianco, a pure reflection of the land, weaves a tale of Trebbiano (Abruzzese and/or Toscano) grapes, composing a minimum of 85% of the blend. Infused with other authorized non-aromatic white varieties, it embodies the crispness of the region. This white wine unfolds with notes of citrus and floral undertones, a symphony of freshness that captures the essence of sun-soaked vineyards. With a minimum alcohol level of 11.5%, Bianco offers a graceful companion for casual moments.
Venturing into the Superiore, Trebbiano finds its crescendo. With a minimum of 90% Trebbiano, harmoniously united with other authorized non-aromatic red grapes, Superiore weaves a narrative of depth and complexity. Born from specific subzones such as Colline Pescaresi, Colline Teramane, Terre Aquilane/Terre de L’Aquila, or Terre di Chieti, this wine embodies the land's character. With a minimum alcohol level of 12.0%, Superiore amplifies the symphony, offering an elevated experience that lingers on the palate.
At the pinnacle stands the Riserva, a testament to time and patience. Also hailing from the Superiore designated subzones, Riserva showcases the artistry of winemaking. A minimum of 90% Trebbiano and other authorized non-aromatic red grapes intertwine, resulting in a wine of profound elegance. Aged to perfection, Riserva boasts a minimum alcohol level of 12.5%, embodying the terroir's spirit.
