about this subregion

Tucked away in Italy's scenic landscapes, the Galluccio DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) stands as a testament to the country's rich wine heritage. A region defined as much by its undulating terrain as by its vibrant viticultural activity, Galluccio provides the world with wines of character and history.

Central to Galluccio's success as a wine-producing region is its environment. The mild Mediterranean climate, characterized by warm summers and gentle winters, alongside the region's fertile soils, proves conducive to the growth of grapevines. The well-drained, volcanic terrain ensures that the vines are nurtured with the right balance of moisture and minerals, influencing the grapes' flavor profile in remarkable ways.

As for the region's grape varieties, Aglianico stands as the most prominently planted red grape. Renowned for its rich, full-bodied wines that burst with flavors of dark fruits, tobacco, and sometimes even chocolate, Aglianico wines from Galluccio DOC often exhibit a beautiful balance of acidity and tannins, making them perfect candidates for aging.

Equally integral to Galluccio's wine tapestry is the white grape variety, Falanghina. Crisp, aromatic, and refreshing, Falanghina wines are reminiscent of citrus and floral notes, with a hint of minerality. This grape captures the essence of the Mediterranean sun and the nuances of the Galluccio terroir, offering wine lovers a delightful experience with every sip.

In sum, the Galluccio DOC is a shining jewel in Italy's winemaking crown, owed largely to its unique environment and the dedication to cultivating its principal grape varieties, Aglianico and Falanghina.
