Most Planted Red Grape Varieties: Barbera, Marzemino

The most common red wine in the Cellatica DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) is a captivating blend that represents the essence of the Lombardy region in Italy. Composed primarily of local grape varieties, this red wine showcases the rich diversity and unique characteristics of the area's terroir.

At its core, the wine must contain a minimum of 30% Barbera, a versatile grape known for its vibrant acidity and dark fruit flavors. Coupled with the Barbera is Marzemino, locally known as Berzemino, which contributes another minimum 30% to the blend. Marzemino adds depth and complexity with its dark berry notes and subtle herbal undertones.

To complement the dominant grapes, a minimum of 10% Schiava Gentile is blended in, bringing a touch of elegance with its red fruit aromas and smooth, delicate character. Additionally, a minimum of 10% Incrocio Terzi no. 1 enhances the blend's structure, offering a unique combination of grape varieties that contribute to its overall harmony.

The wine's composition is rounded out with a maximum of 10% of other authorized red grape varieties, which adds an intriguing touch of character and individuality. This small percentage allows the winemakers to showcase their creativity and skill in crafting a well-balanced and distinctive wine.

The resulting red wine from the Cellatica DOC is a delightful symphony of flavors, boasting a ruby-red hue and an inviting bouquet of red and dark fruits, intertwined with delicate floral and herbal notes.
