Climate rather dry in winter and windy in summer, with high thermal oscillations due to updrafts from the mountainous areas.
The morphological zones that characterize Oltrepò can be divded in two areas: the soils of the lower mountainous zone are formed by marine sedimentary rocks, with an important clayey component, while the soils of higher areas are calcareous.
