The Valcalepio DOC is located in the Lombardy wine region. It covers the territory in the hilly area northwest of Bercamo, and it is bounded by Mount Orobie, Lake Iseo and Mount Canto.
In this region, the temperature varies between the eastern and western zones, with the eastern zone being slightly warmer than the western zone and the valley area. Also, this region receives enough amount of rainfall to make viticulture possible.
Vineyards in the region are located at an average altitude of 550 meters. Regarding the soils, shale-clay soils predominate in the northwest of this wine region, while in the eastern area, which begins in the mountainous zone and ends at Lake Iseo, the soils are clayey-limestone.
