about this subregion

Nestled in the heart of Italy, the Delia Nivolelli Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) is a testament to nature's symphony – a harmonious confluence of climate, soil, and topography. The environment here is truly distinctive, with rolling hills, fertile plains, and the gentle whisper of Mediterranean breezes, providing a perfect sanctuary for grapevines to flourish.

Among the grape varieties that have found a home in Delia Nivolelli, red varieties seem to bask in the region's warmth and sunlight. Cabernet Sauvignon, with its deep hue and robust flavor profile, is a standout, followed closely by the smooth allure of Merlot. But the region's true pride is the Nero d’Avola, an indigenous variety that captures the essence of Sicilian landscapes, producing wines that resonate with rich fruitiness and a hint of spice.

On the white spectrum, the Delia Nivolelli DOC is equally remarkable. The Ansonica grape, with its aromatic allure, sets the stage. Its wines often dance with a hint of citrus and floral undertones. Chardonnay, renowned worldwide, adapts beautifully to the locale, bringing forth its buttery texture and vibrant acidity. Yet, it's the Damaschino, another local hero, that enchants with its freshness and subtle, fruity notes.

Delia Nivolelli's environment, with its unique characteristics, has gifted the world with wines that are as expressive as they are exquisite, each bottle capturing the soul of the region and the passion of its vintners.

In the charming Delia Nivolellia DOC, two extraordinary wines shine brightly – the red and white wines, each crafted from a minimum of 65% of their signature grape varieties.

For the red wines, a captivating blend takes center stage, showcasing the harmonious fusion of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nero d’Avola (also known as Calabrese), Perricone (locally called Pignatello), Sangiovese, and/or Syrah. These noble grape varieties combine their unique characteristics to produce a wine of exceptional depth and complexity. Other authorized red grapes further enrich the blend, elevating the wine's structure and aromatic profile. The result is a captivating red wine boasting flavors of dark berries, spices, and subtle earthy notes, with a velvety texture and balanced tannins that linger gracefully on the palate.

In contrast, the Delia Nivolellia DOC's white wines enchant with their own symphony of flavors, featuring a minimum blend of Ansonica (known locally as Inzolia), Grecanico, and/or Grillo grape varieties. These indigenous treasures create a refreshing and aromatic profile with hints of citrus, tropical fruits, and delicate floral notes. Other authorized white grapes add further complexity, elevating the wine's vivacity and vibrant acidity. The white wines embrace a harmonious balance between fruitiness and freshness, making them a delightful choice for warm summer days or elegant pairings with seafood, salads, and light pasta dishes.

In the Delia Nivolellia DOC, winemakers blend their expertise with the region's exceptional grape varieties, crafting wines that express the essence of the land and its rich viticultural heritage. Whether relishing the bold elegance of the red wines or savoring the invigorating charm of the whites, one thing is certain – each sip encapsulates the magic of Delia Nivolellia, where tradition and innovation embrace in perfect harmony.
