The wines under the Lamezia DOC are made in vineyards located south of Lamezia Terme, near the western coast of Calabria, and extend to the Southern Apennines. However, it is also made around Reggio di Calabria.

The climate in the region is Mediterranean. Summers are usually quite hot, minimizing the risk of disease, while winters are cool, short and free of frost.

The soil of the Lamezia DOC is rich in minerals and is composed mainly of clay and sand. This gives the soil excellent drainage.
