about this subregion

Nestled in the heart of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region lies the enchanting sub-region of Colli di Faenza. This undulating landscape is a mosaic of verdant vineyards, gentle slopes, and ancient soil that whispers tales of countless seasons gone by.

The environment here is nothing short of idyllic for viticulture. A harmonious blend of the Mediterranean climate with the nourishing breezes that meander through the vine rows ensures that grapes mature to perfection. The sunlight dapples through the canopies, casting a golden hue on the vineyards, while the soils, rich and varied, impart unique characteristics to each bottle of wine.

However, what truly sets Colli di Faenza apart is its kaleidoscope of grape varieties. The red vines are predominantly draped with clusters of Ancellotta, lending its intense color and richly-fruited profile. The elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon finds its match in the region's earthy tones, while Ciliegiolo brings forward red fruit aromas reminiscent of cherries in bloom. Merlot, with its soft tannins, marries beautifully with the local terroir, and then there’s the ever-resilient Sangiovese – the heart and soul of many Italian wines – presenting its vibrant acidity and nuanced red fruit flavors.

In the realm of whites, Pignoletto reigns supreme, offering wines with refreshing acidity and notes of green apple and floral undertones. The elegance of Chardonnay finds a unique expression in the region's soils, producing wines that are both creamy and mineral-driven. Grechetto adds its aromatic complexity with hints of white fruits and almond. Pinot Bianco, with its delicate floral touch, contrasts beautifully with the more robust and herbaceous profile of Sauvignon Blanc. And then there's Trebbiano, versatile and adaptive, weaving its citrus and stone fruit narratives throughout many of the region's white blends.

Colli di Faenza, in essence, is a celebration of diversity and unity, of age-old traditions meeting innovative winemaking techniques. It is where the love for the land and the passion for wine converge, producing bottles that not only tell the tale of a place but also of the people and the vines that call it home.
