The Piemonte DOC is the heart of the Piedmont wine region. It covers an area bordered by the Alpine chain, the Ligurian Apennines and the Po River.

The Piemonte DOC has a dry climate with moderate temperatures due to its location across the 45th parallel.

Much of the viticulture in this DOC is concentrated in a mountainous region south of the Po River, while a small part is located in the pre-alpine strip between the mountains and the Po valley. The vineyards are located mainly on schist and morainic soils.
