about this subregion

Nestled in the northernmost part of Italy, the Trentino DOC is an emblematic wine region that beautifully captures the quintessence of its environment. Defined by its spectacular Alpine landscapes, the region is cradled by snow-peaked mountains, verdant valleys, and pristine rivers, each contributing to the distinctive terroir that molds the character of its wines.

One of Trentino's unique attributes is its kaleidoscopic range of grape varieties, making it a thrilling playground for both vintners and wine enthusiasts. The reds of Trentino are a diverse palate of expressions. From the robustness of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon to the subtle elegance of Pinot Nero and Marzemino, there is a shade of red for every palate. The native Lagrein and Teroldego provide an authentic touch, giving wine aficionados a taste of Trentino's rich history. And the rare allure of Moscato Rosa or the vibrancy of Schiava showcases the region's capability to surprise and enchant.

On the other hand, the white grape varieties are nothing short of a poetic ode to the region's diversity. The floral notes of Gewürztraminer dance harmoniously alongside the crispness of Pinot Grigio and the elegance of Chardonnay. The native Nosiola reflects Trentino's heart, while the aromatic allure of Müller-Thurgau or the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc reveal the region's multifaceted nature.

In every sip of a Trentino DOC wine, one can sense the confluence of the Alpine breezes, the sun-kissed valleys, and the passionate dedication of its winemakers. The wines of Trentino are not just beverages; they are stories, memories, and a testament to the symbiotic relationship between nature and man. Whether you're in the mood for a velvety red or a zesty white, Trentino DOC promises an unforgettable journey for the senses.

Discover Terroir

The Trentino DOC is located in the Trentino-Alto Adige wine region. It covers the slopes and plains of the valleys of the Adige, the Sarca and the areas surrounding the lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo, extending across 72 municipalities in the province of Trento. Trentino is a DOC that exclusively encompasses still red, white, and rosé wines, all of which are meticulously crafted to meet the highest standards of quality. In its pursuit of excellence, the Trentino DOC collaborates closely with esteemed organizations like the Consorzio Vini del Trentino or the Consorzio Vini Alto Adige, whose mission is to ensure the exceptional quality and reputation of Trentino wines.

The climate of this DOC is markedly continental. This means that the vineyards develop with high temperatures during the summer and low temperatures during the winter.

A particular characteristic of the region is that the vineyards have a mountainous location. This allows them to enjoy more hours of direct sunshine during the day.
