The DOC Val d'Arbia is located in the Tuscany wine region, and covers a mountainous area that includes the entire municipality of Siena and parts of the municipalities of Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Monteriggioni, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Sovicille, Asciano, Monteroni d'Arbia, Murlo and Buonconvento.

The climate of the region is continental-Mediterranean, with an average annual temperature of 14°C and an annual rainfall of 800 mm.

The soils of the region have a predominance of calcareous and clayey schist formations and a clay-loam texture. In addition, they are shallow and have an alkaline pH.
