about this subregion

Nestled in the heart of Italy, in the enchanting region of Umbria, lies the Assisi DOC — an emblematic representation of the intimate relationship between land and wine. Umbria's verdant landscape, with its rolling hills, ancient olive groves, and historical landmarks, provides a picturesque backdrop to the vineyards of Assisi. This unique terroir, with its fertile soils and balanced climate, has been the cradle of viticulture for centuries.

The Assisi DOC is distinguished not just by its picturesque environment but also by its distinctive grape varieties. Among the reds, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are prominent, each lending its robust character and depth to the wines. The Sangiovese, with its bright cherry notes, and the Pinot Nero, with its delicate aromas, complete the quartet, ensuring a diverse palate that reflects the complexity of the region.

However, it's not just the reds that capture the spirit of the land. Assisi's whites, primarily made from Grechetto and Trebbiano, are a testament to the versatility of the region. Grechetto offers wines with a hint of almond and fresh minerality, while Trebbiano gifts the palate with crispness and floral nuances.

In every sip from a bottle of Assisi DOC, one tastes not just the grape but also the legacy of a region steeped in tradition, culture, and an unwavering respect for nature. Here, in the shadow of the Basilica of Saint Francis, the vineyards of Assisi are a testament to the timeless dance of nature and mankind.
