about this subregion

Nestled in the picturesque Veneto region of northern Italy lies the Venezia DOC, a wine region celebrated for its rich history and captivating environment. This enchanting terroir is renowned not only for its stunning landscapes but also for its exceptional grape varieties.

Venezia DOC benefits from a diverse and unique climate influenced by the nearby Adriatic Sea and the Alpine foothills. The gentle breezes from the sea create a moderate maritime climate that is ideal for viticulture. The region's vineyards are blessed with abundant sunshine, ample rainfall, and well-drained soils, providing the perfect conditions for grape cultivation.

Among the myriad grape varieties grown in Venezia DOC, Merlot stands as the most prominent red grape. Merlot thrives in this region's climate, producing wines with soft tannins and vibrant fruit flavors. These wines often exude notes of ripe plum, cherry, and subtle herbal undertones, making them a favorite among wine enthusiasts.

On the white grape front, Glera reigns supreme. Glera grapes are responsible for the renowned Prosecco wines, a sparkling delight that embodies the spirit of celebration. Glera vines flourish in Venezia DOC's fertile soil, crafting effervescent and lively wines brimming with floral aromas and crisp, green apple flavors.

The Venezia DOC encapsulates the essence of Italian winemaking, offering a glimpse into the harmonious marriage of nature and tradition. Discover Terroir

The DOC Venezia, located in the Veneto wine region, covers he whole administrative area of the provinces of Venice and Treviso. For those seeking exceptional wines from this region, the Consorzio Vini Venezia is a valuable resource and a trusted authority to explore the diverse and delightful offerings of this terroir.

The climate in this area is humid and moderate. This is mostly caused by the vineyards' exposure to the winds because they are mostly situated in flat regions, close to certain lagoons, and the sea and mountains, which function as temperature regulators.

The alluvial regions of Treviso and Venice contain the majority of the vineyards. The Brenta, Piave, Tagliamento, and, to a lesser degree, Livenza rivers, as well as alpine and pre-alpine glaciers, are the sources of the soil's constituent parts. The soils on the high plateaus are made up of fluvio-glacial and fluvial gravel cones, with gravel subsoils.  To the south, on the other hand, the soils become increasingly sandy.
